Abstract

This article explores the multifaceted portrayal of India and the diaspora in the literary works of Chitra  BanerjeeDivakaruni. Born in Kolkata, India, and later becoming an immigrant in the United States, Divakaruni's unique perspective as a diaspora writer allows her to intricately weave together the cultural tapestry of her homeland with the complexities of the immigrant experience. Through an in-depth literature survey, the article delves into selected works such as "The Mistress of Spices," "Sister of My Heart," and "The Palace of Illusions," examining how Divakaruni navigates themes of cultural identity, the diaspora experience, and the empowerment of women. The analysis reveals the author's profound contribution to the global literary discourse, bridging the gap between tradition and modernity, homeland, and diaspora
