Abstract

In the realm of field hockey, the slap shot stands as a potent offensive weapon, requiring a delicate balance of technique and power. This study endeavors to refine the execution of the slap shot among female field hockey players, a pursuit pivotal for competitive success. Through the lens of cinematography and Kinovea software, we delve into the biomechanical intricacies of the slap shot, with a particular focus on the angular dynamics of the left and right knees during execution. The objective of this research is twofold: firstly, to elucidate the critical role of knee angles in optimizing slap shot efficacy; and secondly, to propose targeted biomechanical adjustments aimed at enhancing performance on the field. Utilizing high-speed cameras and meticulous cinematographic analysis, we scrutinized the slap shot technique of fifteen elite female field hockey players. By measuring the angles formed by the left and right knees during the shot, we aimed to unravel the biomechanical nuances underpinning optimal performance. Our results unveil a significant disparity between the average knee angles of the left and right knees during the slap shot, with the left knee exhibiting a mean angle of 140 degrees and 98 degrees for the right knee. This asymmetry underscores the pivotal role of the left knee in generating power and stability during the slap shot, highlighting its potential as a focal point for performance enhancement strategies. In conclusion, our findings underscore the paramount importance of left knee biomechanics in maximizing slap shot performance among female field hockey players. By leveraging insights gleaned from cinematographic analysis, coaches and athletes can refine technique and training protocols to capitalize on the biomechanical advantages conferred by optimal knee angles, thereby elevating on-field performance and competitive prowess.
