Abstract

Globally, artificial intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing law enforcement procedures and posing serious ethical issues in addition to previously unheard-of opportunities. This study examines the complex link between artificial intelligence (AI) and law enforcement, with a particular emphasis on the ways in which technological advancements affect the preservation of human rights. Applications of AI in law enforcement range from facial recognition and predictive policing to evidence processing and criminal pattern analysis. These technologies offer lower costs, more decision-making capacity, and efficiency advantages. They do, however, also bring up issues with privacy invasion, amplified bias, and inadequate accountability.
This study's analysis of the moral ramifications of AI use in law enforcement is a crucial component. While AI systems are able to absorb enormous volumes of data and spot patterns that people might overlook, they can also reproduce and even make preexisting prejudices in policing techniques worse. Human rights are seriously threatened by this possibility for bias, especially when it comes to vulnerable communities who are already disproportionately impacted by law enforcement actions. The study also addresses the legal frameworks and policies that are necessary to reduce these dangers and properly promote AI innovation in law enforcement. Technological innovation and the protection of fundamental rights must be balanced for effective governance, and AI-driven decision-making procedures must be transparent, accountable, and equitable. intensify preexisting prejudices in law enforcement procedures. In the end, this paper advocates for a nuanced approach that prioritizes ethical considerations alongside technological progress, aiming for a future where AI enhances law enforcement effectiveness without compromising individual liberties and societal values. This research aims to provide insights into how stakeholders—governments, law enforcement agencies, technology developers, and civil society—can collaborate to harness AI's benefits while minimizing its adverse impacts on human rights through the analysis of case studies and policy debates.
