Abstract

Tissue damage occurs due to high power consumption in implanted sensor nodes. Consequently, incorporating efficient power consumption elements into the routing metrics is critical when creating a routing protocol for Body Area Networks (BANs). The lifetime of transplanted sensor nodes should be a key consideration. Hence, selecting the optimal technique for low power consumption is necessary. This paper analyses the low power consumption of RPL (Routing Protocol for Low Power and Lossy Networks) in body area networking, which can self-repair and eliminate routing inconsistencies. The performance of the RPL protocol is determined using the Contiki operating system and Cooja simulator.
