EXPLORATION OF SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH THE EYES OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

The study examined the concepts, role of pillars and challenges faced for the implementation of social sustainability through the eyes of sustainable development. The Pervasiveness of exploration of social sustainability within the condition of sustainable development and to maintain a balance between the four components of social sustainability is a major concern. To address this, the research took a qualitative case study that illustrate successful social sustainability strategies in different cultural and economic contexts, offering insights into the challenges and opportunities of harmonizing social goals with sustainable development agendas. This paper examines key indicators of social sustainability—such as community well-being, education, health, and inclusive economic participation—and their interdependence with environmental sustainability. Promoting social sustainability starts by identifying key stakeholders, their objectives, the prevailing norms and values, and other political or policy realities, conveniently working with all key stakeholders to provide input and voice concerns, especially vulnerable groups, those at risk of exclusion, and those who may lose out from a given policy or program. The major study findings revealed the presence challenges in achieving the social sustainability within the ambit of sustainable development, investment in human capital is a critical factor in promoting social cohesion, inclusion, resilience, and the legitimacy of processes. This reinforces the importance of human capital development as a key strategy for achieving broad social and governance-related outcomes. Challenges such as income inequality increases, various aspects of social well-being tend to decrease, with the strongest correlation observed for process legitimacy, to address this challenges Development actors must create opportunities for all stakeholders and Stakeholder participation should be iterative—regular and continuous Ultimately, understanding social sustainability through sustainable development frameworks highlights its critical role in building equitable societies capable of adapting to and thriving amid ecological and economic changes.
