Abstract

The present study aims to explore the attitudes and awareness of research scholars at the University of Mysore regarding the usage of open access (OA) publications. Open access resources have gained significant importance in academic and research circles as they offer freely available, peer-reviewed scholarly content that can be accessed without subscription fees. However, the level of awareness and the factors influencing the usage of OA publications may vary among scholars. This study will provide insights into how well research scholars understand and use open access outlets. In general, participants view open access publications positively, particularly in terms of self-archiving, the right to reuse work under creative commons licenses, and the idea that OA publications are freely available online. However, there is less consensus on more complex issues like the public's rights to distribute and share publications, and the practice of authors paying publication fees (APCs). The relatively high standard deviations across the characteristics suggest that while there is general support for OA, opinions vary on some of the more intricate aspects of the model. The study would conclude with a summary of the research findings, highlighting the key attitudes, awareness levels, and usage patterns of open access publications among research scholars at the University of Mysore.
