Abstract

The works written by Nirad C. Chaudhuri are often considered as anti-Indian. He was also called as pro-British. He gave the details from a new perspective with a new mindset. This paper presents the description of history and culture through autobiographical element of his work The Autobiography of an Unknown India. This work established his position but detached him from his native people. He expressed his views from a self-detached perspective. He was a brilliant prose writer of India. This work unexpectedly brought him huge name and fame. Though, he was unknown Indian but soon after the publication of this work he became known to all. He wrote this work when he was at the threshold of his fiftieth year. On the one hand, he was appreciated by Western readers but on the other, he was considered as an outsider by his own people. This work generally presents the growth and psychology of the man. His work is subjective and objective as well. His work was different and unconventional in many ways. He presented the objective form which leads a reader to its subjective form. In this Nirad explained that man is a product of his culture and environment force. This paper aims at presenting the interpretation of human life in the light of scientific knowledge of psychology.
