Creative thinking and Academic Achievement of Upper Primary Students in Relation to Gender

Creative thinking is vital in helping students think critically, solve problems, and express themselves uniquely to improve their academic achievement. Academic achievement reflects how well students do in their studies, and various factors like creativity, skills, emotional intelligence, personal efforts and resources, etc., often influence it. This study explores the relationship between creative thinking and academic achievement of upper primary students concerning their gender. 60 students in 8th-grade upper primary schools were selected for the present study. Using a random sampling method, the researcher selected 35 girls and 25 boys from government and private-aided schools of the Dehradun district of Uttarakhand. A verbal test of creative thinking developed by Baqer Mehdi was used for the present study. Academic achievement scores were taken from the students' half-yearly examination records. Finally, it has been shown that there is a substantial positive association between creative thinking and academic achievement. Furthermore, it has been found that female students have a somewhat higher capacity for creative thinking than male students.
